Good general menu, nothing especially fancy or creative.  Family friendly, in the center of  Sugar Loaf.  Two levels, first floor and bathrooms accessible.

Bella Notte - 1731 Route 211 East, Middletown, NY, 10941  (845) 692-7400

Not typical eggplant and spaghetti, this restaurant offers true Italian cuisine. The food is excellent, the service is wonderful, you are greeted immediately upon entering. The setting inside is so much more than the outside promises (located in a strip mall). Menu is very varied with specials and appetizers that change regularly. An excellent wine list. Not too pricey.

Bull's Head Inn - Sara Wells Trail, Campbell Hall  (845) 496-6758

Call for directions if you don't know the area.  Very good continental menu in a beautiful setting.  Somewhat pricey.  Good service.

Camillo's - At the crossroads of Route 208 and 17K, Montgomery 12549  (845)457-5482

Chef/owner Chris Camillo offers a varied menu of American and Continental dishes.  Reasonable prices, family friendly.  There are many quality creative dishes along with the usual burgers and sandwiches.  Full bar, good parking.

Cancun Inn - New Hampton, NY, 10958  (845) 374-6121

Very large portions, excellent service, free salsa and chips, great Margaritas. True Mexican menu, with many choices. Ambiance still needs some work, as this was a restored strip joint, but each visit they appear to make progress on this front! Very affordable.

Catherine's - 153 West Main Street, Goshen 10924  (845) 294-8707

A very popular local restaurant with a varied American menu. There are some genuine European touches. Large portions, fairly priced. Very good breads, informed service. Street parking, handicap access difficult.

Chateau Hathorn - 33 Hathorn Rd, Warwick  (845) 986-6099

Just south of the village.  General continental menu. Very attractive setting.

Church Street Cafe - 6 North Church St, Goshen 10924  (845) 294-8373

A very good French menu.  Reasonable value.  Good service.  Previously known as 'Ile de France' – same owners, simpler menu than before.  Place is quite small and reservations essential on weekends.

Costagliola's Little Italy - 121 Washington Ave, Newburgh  (845) 565-1515

It's really on Broadway.  One of the great neighborhood Italian restaurants.  Extremely popular for good reason.  Huge amounts of excellent Southern Italian food at bargain prices.  Friendly service, all on one level and entire restaurant is Non-Smoking.  Call ahead you won't be sorry.

Dan bo - 335 Windsor Highway (route 32) New Windsor, NY 12553  (845) 562-0697

A relatively new Asian restaurant featuring Thai and Sushi plus many other Japanese dishes. A very extensive menu with reasonable prices. Beautiful setting with good service, active owner involvement. Reservations suggested on weekends.

Diana's Restaurant  - 1015 Little Britain Rd (route 207), New Windsor  (845) 567-1890  1/4 mile East of Stewart Airport.

Excellent Italian food in a pleasant setting.  There are many very creative dishes; always ask about the specials.  Upper range prices, but good value.  Full bar, good parking, all on one level, very accessible.  Reservations essential on weekends.  Very professional service.

El Bandido - 536 E Main St, Middletown, NY, 10940  (845) 343-2958

Wonderful ambiance - inside the walls are hand painted with historic scenes from Mexican history. Menu is excellent with complimentary salsa and chips and a small welcoming quesadilla. After dinner a shot of tequila on the house. most night a Mexican guitarist will wander from table to table singing songs and strumming a tune (please tip him a small amount if you like the service). Waiters are immediately on hand and friendly. A little bit on the expensive side.

El Tumi - 346 Broadway (just west of Route 9W), Newburgh   (845) 569-0202

A relative new addition to the collection of Peruvian restaurants in Newburgh. Open Wednesday to Sunday. A good family friendly, family owner restaurant. Reasonable prices, good portions, friendly service. Bright and clean.

Gasho of Japan - 336 Route 32, Central Valley (just a mile or two north of Woodbury Common)  (845) 928-2277

A beautiful setting for reasonably good Japanese food.  The show around the Hibachi tables is first class.  Great action for the kids.

Gully's Restaurant - 2 Washington St, Newburgh  12550  (845) 565-0077

Another of the good places on the Hudson.  Gully's actually floats in the river.  Closed in winter.  A local gathering place, good food, generous portions.  Great for river viewing, especially for the kids.  NO separate smoking section, but outdoors helps - sit upwind.

Excellent Japanese food in a very pleasant setting.  Very good Sushi.  Fair prices.  Full Japanese menu.

Il Ceno Colo - 152 Route 52, Newburgh 10950  (845) 564-4494

One of the best restaurants in the area.  Limited, creative Italian menu.  All dishes are worth tasting.  Excellent service, but very pricey.  Save your dollars and give it a try.  Forget bringing the kids.

Loughran's Restaurant - Route 94 / Schoolhouse Road, (between Washingtonville and Vails Gate) Salisbury Mills, NY 12577  (845) 496-3615

General American, overly generous portions of very good food.  Midweek specials a great bargain.  Family friendly. Main dining room non-smoking, accessible, all on one level.  Full bar with tables in separate room.

Mulberry Street Grill - 62 Wood Rd, Sugarloaf  (845) 469-6615

On the edge of the village.  A very good Italian restaurant with a creative menu in an attractive setting.  Reasonable prices for level of food and service.

Nina – 27 West Main Street Middletown, NY 10940 845-344-6800

A very popular restaurant in a beautifully decorated old building. Good service with a varied menu. Crowded on weekends, all ahead.

Old Town Buffet – 1433 Union Ave. Newburgh NY 12550 (Newburgh Town Center Rt. 300) 845-566-8383

With new buffets opening regularly it is difficult to choose, but we feel this is the best one based on choice of dishes, cleanliness, and quality of food. Nice friendly service. Kids welcome, excellent value.

Painter's Tavern - 266 Hudson St, Cornwall-On-Hudson  (845) 534-2109

A very good restaurant in a delightful setting.  Outdoor dining w/ weather permitting.  Located in an old house exuding charm.   General American menu, well-prepared dishes, regular specials.  Main dining room is non-smoking - all on one level.

Raccoon Saloon - 1330 Main St. (route 9W) in the center of the village, Marlboro  (845) 236-7094

Don't let the name fool you; this is one of the better restaurants in the area.  Very creative menu, large portions, good value for the price.  Attentive service.  Main dining room non-smoking.  Everything on one level, curb outside could present a problem.

Red Ginger - 202 South Plank Road (Route 52), Town of Newburgh (845) 566-1888

An excellent Asian restaurant with a huge menu. Great sushi, with an all you can eat program, during the week is best. Good service, large portions, fair prices, family friendly.

The River Grill - 40 Front Street, Newburgh 12550  (845) 561-9444

A great setting on the shores of the Hudson River.  Excellent food - generic continental.  Good choices, creative preparation.  Generous portions, in the upper range price wise. This is one of a group of new restaurants on the Hudson.  Reservations essential on weekends and helpful during the week.  Street parking, everything on one level.  There are children's selections plus the activity of the river.  Outdoor patio for good weather.

Submitted by one of our viewers  - Excellent food, excellent service.  Especially knowledgeable about wines and the food they go best with.  Incredible desserts and coffee (high raves for fresh coffee). The kitchen is visible from the dining room.  Some tables have wicker cobra back chairs - great fun.

Velvet Monkey – 46 Millpond Parkway Monroe NY 10950  (845) 781-7762

A new quality restaurant in the heart of the Village of Monroe. Parking in lot next door or in the street. The menu is eclectic American reflecting the CIA training of the chef. Very good food, well-presented and paired with excellent service. Leave the children at home and enjoy yourselves. A full bar occupies much of one side of a clean nicely decorated setting. A bit pricy for Orange County. Reservations on weekends recommended.

Ward’s Bridge Inn – 135 Ward St. (route 17K) Montgomery NY 12549. 845-457-1300

New owners have given this restaurant, located in a 19th century building, a very good menu, good service and creative dishes. Full bar, kids OK during the week. Very popular, consider reservations. Large portions, good value for money.

Winding Hills Club House Restaurant - 1878 Route 17K, Montgomery (2 miles north of the village)  (845) 457-8133

An excellent restaurant in a beautiful setting overlooking the golf course.  Good creative menu, attentive service, reasonable prices, reservations on weekends.  Smoke free, accessible (all on one level).

Yobo - 1297 Route 300, Newburgh 12550 (where 300 goes under route 84)  (845) 564-3848

A very good Asian Restaurant.  Varied menu, best dishes are Japanese.  Great setting.  Family friendly, smokers properly separated.  Accessible, but bathrooms up a step.  Service prompt and efficient.  Prices fair, good portions.
